The Hanoverian breed was founded in Hanover, in north western Germany in 1735 by Royal Decree. Holstein stallions were used to lighten native mares, who were heavy horses

descended  from the Great War-Horses of the middle ages. Further crosses were done incorporating Thoroughbreds and Cleveland Bays imported from England. The process continued Through the 19th century, producing a horse equally suited to military work, coach, farming or riding. After World War II, the goals for the Hanoverian breed were modified to produce a riding horse of "superior performance." Thoroughbred, Trakehner and Arabian blood were introduced to refine the Hanoverian into the elegant horse we know today. The Hanoverian excels in show-jumping, eventing and dressage disciplines. The Hanoverian of today demonstrates style, athleticism and supreme elegance, beautifully captured in the North Light model. From the beautiful head to the gracefully arched neck, to the well-balanced muscular body, this model elegantly represents the breed.
