isolated so the breed has remained remarkably
pure, with evidence suggesting very little change from its early
ancestors. The breed developed in a harsh, solitary moorland environment,
which contributed to the breeds development into a tough, strong,
resilient pony. Even with the pony's small size it can carry an
adult rider for hours on end. These ponies still roam in herds over
the moorlands of southwest England, although they are privately
owned and registered. Once a year they are rounded up, branded and
inspected for breed qualities, and those fitting the breed standard
are registered in the stud book. This pony stands up to 12.3 hands
high at the withers, has a well-proportioned head, small ears and
large expressive eyes. He has a thick neck, broad chest, muscular
shoulders and a short strong back. Legs are short, well muscled
and sturdy. Hooves are small and very tough.
The North Light studio artists have captured this sturdy bodied
pony with exceptional detail. The heavy mane and tail have extensive
mold detailing, the muscular body is well-defined, and the strong
legs carefully detailed to the breed standard. This figurine is
modeled after an Exmoor Pony named "Jiminy Cricket", thus
giving this figurine its full name.
This pony is available in the standard breed colors of bay, brown
and mouse dun, as well as all other color-ways North Light makes.
All colors will be available soon.
